AbstractWe propose a game theoretic model to analyze heterogenous interactions among individuals in a social network with hierarchy. Hierarchy is the distribution of social status and hierarchy effects represent the status-based differences in peer effects. We establish the identification of the game model and extend Aguirregabiria and Mira (2007)’s nested pseudo likelihood estimation (NPLE) in their dynamic game setting to our large network game of social interactions. Our Monte Carlo experiments show that the proposed estimation procedure performs well in finite sample applications. We illustrate the model and the estimation method through an empirical study of peer effects and hierarchy effects among high school students in college attendance using Add Health dataset.
